Orthodontia


Orthodontia is a speciality of dentistry that is concerned with the design and fabrication of dental appliances for the treatment of malocclusions, which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. There are three main types of orthodontic appliances: active, passive and functional. All these types can be fixed or removable.

Serial Extractions
Is an interceptive orthodontic procedure usually initiated in the early mixed dentition when one can recognize and anticipate potential irregularities in the dento- facial complex and is corrected by a procedure that includes the planned extraction of certain deciduous teeth and later specific permanent teeth in an orderly sequence and predetermined pattern to guide the erupting permanent teeth into a more favorable position.

Myo Functional Appliances
Is an appliance that produces all or part of its effect by altering the position of the mandible primary objective of functional appliance is to take advantage of natural forces and transmit them to selected areas to produce the desired changes.

Begg's Appliance
A fixed dental device designed to perform a therapeutic or corrective function.

Straight Wire Appliances
A dental device designed to perform a therapeutic or corrective function.
