Oral Hygiene/ Prophylaxis

Scaling
is the cleaning of the tooth surface which involves the removal of plaque and tartar from, around and below the gum line.

Root Planing
Involves the scraping and smoothening of the root surfaces of the teeth. This facilitates the firm reattachment of the gum tissue to the root surface.

Curettage
A small amount of the diseased inner gum lining is gently scraped. This in line with root planing and scaling facilitates firm attachment of the gums.

Polishing
A smooth surface textures minimizes the staining and accumulation of plaque. This is done with fine rotary brush and rubber cup.

Fluoride Application
Inhibits demineralization and remineralizes the tooth surface.

Pit and Fissure Sealants
is a cement or resin material which is introduced into unprepared occlusal pit and fissures of caries susceptible teeth forming a mechanical and physical protective layer against the action of acid producing bacteria and their substrates.

Habit breaking Appliances
Oral habits in children have a definite bearing on the development of occlusion. Frequently, children acquire certain habits that may either temporarily or permanently be harmful to dental occlusion and to the tooth supporting structures.

Thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, mouth breathing, bruxism, lip biting etc have a deleterious effect on the teeth and their supporting structures.

Habit breaking appliances are mechanical aids which involves interception of the habit followed by treatment to correct the malocclusion.
